Group courses
Marriage Care offers a marriage preparation course that is conducted in co-operation with local churches and others who are helping couples to get ready for their wedding and for married life. The content of the course makes it an integral component of the whole pastoral service to couples entering marriage.
Marriage Care's primary concern is for the well-being of the couple. We are interested in a good celebration of marriage ' of making public a private commitment - and of ensuring that the two people involved both know and trust that this person is the one with whom they want to share their life.
The route towards certainty requires couples to be aware of the people, events and influences which have helped to shape their life so far. It also means acknowledging the person they have become as a result. As well as being clear about their experience of marriage through their family of origin, people are encouraged to recognise the quality of friendship and intimacy that they share as a couple.
Most couples sense intuitively their sexual and emotional compatibility. What marriage preparation does is shine a light on the partnership tasks which they will be signing up to in marriage. Marriage preparation allows couples to explore safely those tasks in a confidential and secure environment.
For many people the move towards commitment means a considerable shift in mindset which taps naturally into their spirituality. Acknowledgement of this is another aspect of marriage preparation.
