Marriage Care's Counsellors

Marriage Care's counsellors are unpaid professionals who have undergone rigorous training and receive on-going supervision and in-service training. This ensures that they are open to work on a non-judgmental basis with clients from all sections of the community.

As mentioned previously, confidentiality is of the utmost importance and for this reason, Marriage Care counsellors do not take notes or make tape recordings during a counselling session. Where a counsellor makes case notes following a session, these contain essential information only, to standards of professional practice. Records are marked by reference numbers and identifying information such as names are changed or omitted.

Where a client has been referred to Marriage Care by a professional, such as a GP or a solicitor, no report is ever made back to the referrer. Neither do Marriage Care counsellors act as witnesses on behalf of clients in legal processes such as separation, divorce or nullity proceedings.
